Spring Cleaning Your Campervan

Spring is the perfect time to give your camper a proper reset. After winter trips, damp weather, muddy boots, and layers of extra gear, even the best-kept vans benefit from a thorough clean and reorganisation.
Spring cleaning your camper isn’t about perfection. It’s about creating a calm, fresh space that feels good to travel and sleep in, ready for the season ahead.
Start by Emptying Everything Out
The easiest way to clean properly is to take everything out of the van.
Remove bedding, cushions, throws, cooking gear, storage boxes, and anything that isn't permanently fixed down. This gives you a clear view of the space and makes it easier to clean corners, cupboards, and hidden areas that don’t get much attention during trips.
It’s also a good chance to notice what you actually use and what’s just taking up space.
Deep Clean the Interior Surfaces
Once the van is empty, focus on the interior surfaces.
Wipe down cupboards, shelves, tables, and worktops. Hoover floors, seating areas, and cushion bases, and give the cab a proper clean too. Windows and mirrors make a huge difference – clean glass instantly makes the van feel brighter and fresher.
Pay particular attention to areas near doors and storage where dirt and moisture tend to build up over winter.
Wash Soft Furnishings and Bedding
Cushions, mattress toppers, throws, and bedding can all hold onto moisture and smells over time.
If covers are removable, wash them according to care instructions and let everything dry fully before putting it back. Even airing cushions and mattresses outdoors on a dry day can make a noticeable difference.
Fresh fabrics help the camper feel lighter and more inviting as temperatures rise.
Tackle Storage and Organisation
Spring cleaning is the ideal time to rethink how you store things.
Group items by use – cooking, outdoor gear, cleaning, and everyday essentials. Make sure frequently used items are easy to reach and heavier items are stored securely.
If something hasn’t been used all winter, ask whether it really needs to stay in the van. Less clutter means a calmer space and quicker packing for spontaneous trips.
Check for Damp and Condensation
Winter travel can leave hidden damp behind.
Check inside cupboards, under seats, and around windows for any signs of moisture. Wipe everything dry and allow airflow through the van where possible. Leaving doors and cupboards open on a dry day helps the van fully breathe again.
Catching small issues now prevents bigger problems later in the season.
Refresh the Kitchen and Water Areas
Clean out the fridge, wipe down cooking areas, and check storage where food is kept.
If your water system was used less over winter, run fresh water through taps and give sinks and drains a clean. This is a simple step that makes the camper feel ready for longer trips again.
Give the Outside Some Attention Too
Spring cleaning isn’t just about the inside.
Wash the exterior, clean door seals, and check around vents and openings. A quick walk around the van helps you spot anything that needs attention before trips become more frequent.
It’s also a good time to check tyre pressures and give the cab a once-over.
Reset for the Season Ahead
Spring cleaning is as much about mindset as it is about cleaning.
Spending time caring for the van reconnects you with it and gets you ready for new trips. A clean, organised camper makes it easier to head off without stress and enjoy the freedom that camper travel offers.
